Description:

I just had to write something about this shop! A little off the main street in a quieter bit of town, 'on the Mekong just down from Joma bakery' as they say, Erawan Arts is located and sells THE most beautiful silk scarves, wall hangings, table/bed runners etc and all are hand woven using 100% Lao silk and coloured using natural dyes.

A few shops in town did have nice silks too, but none came close, and oddly enough were even pricier. Erawan’s ranged $30 - $600, but the higher end ones easily showed the amount of work involved, some taking 3 months to finish, the weavers are paid above average too. Well, practically all silk that I had seen elsewhere had nicks, and loose threads etc but not at Erawan - they were perfect.

Erawan Arts supports the local people by giving a share of profits to various causes. They run medical trips to remote areas, and install fresh water to villages. They also supply books for schools and teach English for free! A great philosophy – I’ll be back.
