Saga Dawa means 'fourth month', and it is on the 15th day of this month on the Tibetan calendar that Tibetan and Nepalese Buddhists celebrate both his birth and the day when he died and attained Nirvana.
Saga Dawa Festival The May 27 - June 18, 2009 departure coincides with the most important festival of the Tibetan year - and Kailash is the most important place to celebrate. Marking the anniversary of the Buddha's Enlightenment and earthly death; join pilgrims as the new flag pole is raised at Tarboche and on the circumambulation of the sacred mountain.
