Description:
One of the most interesting parts of Xian, for my money. This area begins in a tunnel north of the Drum Tower, where merchants sell snacks of a distinctly Xian flavor. The road directly north is a great place to eat traditional Xian Muslim cuisine, or to buy an amazing variety of things, from scrolls to swords of a surprisingly high quality. While there's a bit of a tourist feel to the place, the merchants aren't particularly aggressive, and the architecture is amazing - many buildings date back to the 1500's. As you travel further north, the tourist begin to thin out, and you find yourself in a more real-feeling are. If you miss this, you've missed Xian.
