Sonargaon means 'the golden village', and the Taj Bengal hotel has really succeeded in giving this place a nice rural look - with a courtyard, a stringed cot mounted on the wall, ethnic curios and a make-believe well to draw water from.

The restaurant may leave you puzzled with its seemingly endless list of Indian dishes. While the veggie-lovers could try the mouthwatering delicacies that bear the strokes of the different states of India, the rest could dine in the true nawaabi style and choose the Kakori Kebab (the best
in the city) and Murg Wajid Ali (stuffed, pounded chicken breast marinated in saffron and cooked in a mildly spicy sauce). But if you want to have this rural experience right in the urban setting of Kolkata, be ready to part with a hefty amount at this 130-cover restaurant.
