Htam Sam Cave
Fresh vegetables stalls at Nyaung Shwe |

I visited Inle in March 2010 and was keen to explore a less touristy spot. After visiting Nyaung Shwe markets in the morning, me and my friends headed to Taungyi for a traditional Shan lunch.
During lunch, a suggestion came up that we drive to Htam Sam Cave, about 25 miles from Taungyi on the way to Hopon.
The road was unsealed and a bumpy ride did not bother me as I was excited to visit the Cave. The Cave is of great importance for locals as it was enshrined with many consecrated Buddha images. Our driver even did not know the location, so we had to backtrack a few times. Luckily we made it to the Cave. It is a huge cave and is in the process of renovating.
Tourists are not yet allowed to visit at present but it will be something to look forward to when renovations are complete and access to the cave improved.
Coincidently, on my flight back from Heho to Yangon by Air Bagan, I had a chance to read the cover story of Htam Sam cave. (Inflight Magazine of Air Bagan Vol 5, Issue 3)
It looks like this area will become a must visit destination sometime in the future.
