Whoopsadaisy... I'm in Switzerland!

That's how it feels at Danau Toba, a beautiful, big lake in Northern Sumatra.  Tall mountains surround the lake, in its centre there is an island the size of Singapore, with even more mountains.  All is lush and green, but apart from the palm trees everywhere, it looks a lot like a lake in Switzerland.

The ferries across the lake have a certain old-world charm, so do the resorts.  All is very well kept and beautifully landscaped.  There are big pools of pink water-lilies with massive gold fish swimming around in them, coming up for air every now and then.  The floors in the resort are tiled with mosaic.  The trees are clipped into shape like in a garden in a French castle.   There are little pavilions in the garden, where you can have food and drinks, or you can sit on a sun-lounger under the trees on the terrace along the lake front.  The table tops in the restaurants are all made from carefully polished thick slices of tree trunks (like in Switzerland), and I have never seen such clean and shiny floors in a restaurant (apart from maybe in Switzerland).

And believe it or not, the band in the bar tonight was jodeling! Just like in Switzerland...

I have a big, airy, clean but simple room with massive windows overlooking the lake, the mountains and the water-lily pond.  I even have my own little terrace.  And this is the shocker: it only costs £4 per night.  Check it out!!!

But it gets better.  They have a German bakery at the resort!  I'm in heaven!

I think I might have to stay here for a while.
