Rara Lake National Park is very much ‘off the beaten track' and affords and scenery very different from that in the rest of Nepal.

The serene, translucent waters of Rara Lake provide a sublime reflection of the surrounding mountains which are covered with dense temperate forests teeming with wildlife. During spring the visitor is rewarded with a profusion of delicate wild alpine flowers which carpet our pasture camp sites.

The Rara lake region is considered to be the cradle of the Malla civilization which ruled western Nepal and the bordering areas of India and Tibet in the twelfth to fourteenth centuries. The region has a unique cultural flavour, heavily influenced by Tibet and incorporating the powerful local diety "Masta", creating a region of both great interest and natural beauty. This conveniently short trek is frequently combined with trips Dolpo and Mt Kailash.
