Recipe: Pisang Goreng - Banana Fritters

Serves about 8

1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 egg, beaten
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon Oil for frying
4 large ripe bananas, peeled and halved lengthwise, then cut into 2 to 3 inch pieces
1/2 cup whipping cream
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon vanilla icing sugar

Combine flour, water, baking powder, egg and cinnamon, adding more water or flour if necessary to make smooth batter, then set aside for half hour. Place oil in a saucepan to about 1 inch deep, then heat. Dip the banana pieces in the batter, then fry until golden brown. Remove the bananas from the oil and allow to drain.

In the meanwhile, in a saucepan, thoroughly combine remaining ingredients,except icing sugar, then cook over medium heat stirring often until the sugar has dissolved. Place banana pieces on serving plates, then thoroughly cover with cream/sugar mixture. Sprinkle with icing sugar, then serve hot.
