The Scientific Library of al-Farabi Kazakh State National University (KazGU) is a cultural and spiritual center for students, professors, and the whole teaching academic staff. There you can find textbooks, monographs, unique samples of fiction, rare books of XVII-XIX centuries and more than 200,000 copies of periodicals. The Scientific Library of KazGU is one of the largest libraries in the Republic of Kazakhstan. It was founded in 1934. Since that time the library has been orientating its activity to satisfy the cultural needs and wants of its readers providing them with different sources, necessary in the academic process or in their research.

The National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NLRK) is one of the largest libraries in the world. Today it is the acknowledged leader in Kazakhstani librarian science. It stores the knowledge of many generations of Kazakhstani scholars. It is the single most important scientific, research, reference, bibliographical, information and library computerization center in the field of librarian science in Kazakhstan.

The National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan acquires free legal copies of books, Republic and regional information, district journals, newspapers and other printed productions issued in Kazakhstan. December 31, 1910 is considered to be the NLRK's birthday. Since that time the library functions as the state national book storage in the republic, the only institution in the world which collects and preserves the written documentary heritage of the Kazakhs and the peoples inhabiting Kazakhstan. The NLRK collections are unique and universal and include 5.5 million publications in 100 languages of the world. Researchers are attracted by the collection of rare books and manuscripts.
