Hong Kong's Times Square opened in 1994 with a JumboTron. In 1999, an upgraded screen was installed. This new screen is the first and the largest LED JumboTron ever installed in Asia outside of Japan, with a projection area of about 65 square meter (9.36m X 6.96m). This JumboTron presents sharp and vivid images with high resolution (15 mm pixel pitch) and 4,000cd/m2 brightness level. The Sony JumboTron was first introduced to the world in 1985, ushering in an entirely new era in communications media, making the name 'Sony' synonymous with large TVs, a familiar fixture at athletic stadiums, indoor sports areas, racetracks and commercial buildings around the world. Rated as one of the top 10 tourist attractions by the Hong Kong Tourist Association, Times Square is a 2 million square foot office and retail complex in bustling Causeway Bay. It is Hong Kong's most popular mall. On an average weekend over 135,000 visit its 350 shops, 18 restaurants, four-screen cinema and basement food court. Cheers as Brazil scores one with a free kick from 28 yards. The crowd gets quickly bigger, filling the Times Square plaza. This plaza is one of the most successful outdoor venues for exhibitions, product launches and variety shows, staging an average of 250 shows annually.
