Born in 1958 in Hué, graduated from Teacher Training School in Quy Nhon and taught chemistry until he moved to Hoi An in 1975 and began painting. Worked as in-house artist for Central Vietnam Cinematic Company from 1978 until 1981, and directed the local training program for the Young Artists' International Competition in 1979. Owns a Hoi An gallery popular with European visitors.
