A family uses their main living room to prepare "thai apples" for the central market. The fruit must not be too ripe because the Thai people like it crunchy with sprinkles of sugar.

He has a small little shack for his one-chair barbershop. His clientel are men from the neighborhood that he has known for years. Picture calendars from a local tire company adorn the walls.

A street vendor offers a platter of freshly fried catfish to passer-bys. It is her only means of income. She buys the fish every morning at the central market.

Three young children sit at a small outdoor cafe table in the middle of the day enjoying dessert. By night, the same table will serve patrons from the nearby hotel and be a meeting place for females anxious for male company.

This eight-four year old man has cataracts so bad that he is virtually blind. He has been without teeth for nearly 40 years, but has learned to eat without them. His daughter cares for him. His prize possession is an old beatup transistor radio. He loves to listen to music.

She makes her morning rounds in the alleys looking through the trash cans for bottles, cans and sometimes even food. It is how she survives. She stands posing beside her cart, puzzled at why I would want her picture.

There is one nice home along the alley. It is secured by a high spiked fence. Inside, a woman sits in a doorway looking outward as if in deep thought, perhaps dreaming of a different place and different time. Her husband is a policeman.
