In Japan's countryside we can still see around thatched roofs, called in Japanese Gasshyo Zukuri, though the tradition is slowly disappearing. This house is found near Arashiyama, outside of Kyoto.

Here and there, we can see a thatched roof, lost among more modern ones, which easily attracts the tourist?s attention. This house is also found near Arashiyama, outside of Kyoto. In the town of Gero-Onsen, in Gifu prefecture, which is one of the well-known Japan's hot spring towns, there is a reconstructed thatched house village for tourists to visit. This historical village presents the life of the people living in this kind of houses.
