Samantha Coomber
Biographical Info:
Samantha Coomber got more than she bargained for when she first arrived in Vietnam in 1998. Inspired by her "most excellent adventures," this native Londoner made a quick career change to travel writer and the one-month backpacking trip developed into more than eight years living, working and traveling in Vietnam. Fifteen months off-on in total was spent backpacking around Vietnam, before head hunted to set-up and launch the first English-language magazine for Vietnam's government-run tourist department - the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.
Based in Hanoi, after three years in her role as co-editor / chief writer on the pioneering magazine (and surviving), Samantha went even more native - now working as a freelance travel and lifestyle writer based in Ho Chi Minh City.
International publication credits include writing the first edition Insight Pocket Guide Hanoi and Northern Vietnam, plus Insight Smart Guide to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City; updating / rewriting Insight Vietnam and Insight Pocket Guide to Vietnam guidebooks, Rough Guides Vietnam and South-east Asia guidebooks and LUXE Hanoi and HCMC City Guides. Samantha also made article contributions for ThingsAsian's very own "To Vietnam with Love" and "To Asia with Love" compilation books.
Magazine credits include National Geographic Traveler, Travel+Leisure, DestinAsian, Spa Asia, Homespa, Destination of the World News, Asia Spa and Asia Pacific Tropical Homes, plus Tiger Airways, Cathay Pacific and Air Canada in-flight magazines.
Eleven years on from her first trip, she's still mesmerised by this magical country.
