Biographical Info:

Michael Yamashita has been a regular contributor to National Geographic since 1979, covering Asia, Africa, Europe and North America. His previous book, In the Japanese Garden, has won numerous awards, including those from the American Booksellers Association and the Garden Writers of America. Fluent in Japanese, Yamashita has spent the past twenty years traveling extensively throughout Asia and has lived in Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand and Japan. When not on assignment, he is a frequent lecturer at photographic seminars and workshops. He lives in Mendham, NJ, with his wife, Elizabeth Bibb.
