Lady Borton is the author of After Sorrow: An American Among the Vietnamese, a book which remains the only one in English or Vietnamese to describe the "people's war" against the French and Americans and to document the changes in Vietnam that have come with renovation. After Sorrow provides another side of the Vietnam story from Borton's first book, Sensing the Enemy: An American Woman Among the Boat People of Vietnam. For years Borton was the only foreigner whom the Vietnamese allowed to live with a family in Vietnam.
